TEMECULA, CA — The Temecula City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday, Oct. 13, on a proposed $500,000 wayfinding sign program designed to help visitors navigate Old Town more easily.

The Old Town Wayfinding Sign Program, requested by City Council members Jessica Alexander and Zak Schwank, aims to improve the visitor experience by streamlining vehicular traffic to public parking garages and major destinations like City Hall, eateries and pubs.

"The primary function of this sign project is to get people parked as fast as possible so they can sip, eat, and experience all that Old Town has to offer," economic development staff noted in the report.

The project features three types of updated and unified signage designed by Temecula-based company Brand Assassins:

  • Parking Structure Signage: Custom, branded signs identifying the city’s public parking garage.
  • Pedestrian Directory Signage: Replacement of three existing directory maps, along with two new ones placed near the parking garage and at the entrance to Old Town.
  • Vehicular Wayfinding Signage: Street-level signs directing drivers to public parking facilities and municipal buildings.

Funding for the initiative comes from $500,000 previously set aside under funding received from federal and state COVID-19 relief, which, in Temecula, designated money specifically for business support.

The proposal arrives before the full council following unanimous support from the Old Town Steering Subcommittee, the Old Town Local Advisory Committee, the Old Town Temecula Association, and the Planning Commission.

If approved, the project will move from the design phase into its second phase, where Public Works will oversee fabrication and installation as a Capital Improvement Project.

The City Council meeting begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chamber at Temecula Civic Center, 41000 Main St. See the full meeting agenda here.
