A Reflection of Jesus in Islam During the Holiday Season

While Muslims do not celebrate Christmas, many still appreciate the season's focus on Jesus and the values associated with him.

Jesus holds a place of deep reverence in Islam. Muslims honor him as one of the greatest prophets sent by God. The Qur’an highlights his miraculous birth, his wisdom, and the signs granted to him. One verse states: “When the angels said, ‘O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter’” (Qur’an 3:45). This verse affirms his dignity and central role in God’s plan.

Muslims revere Jesus for his compassion, justice, and devotion to the worship of one God. The Qur’an describes miracles performed by him, such as healing the sick by God’s permission, emphasizing both his humanity and his elevated status as a messenger. His mother, Mary is also deeply respected, with a full chapter of the Qur’an named after her, underscoring the honor given to both mother and son.

Muslims appreciate the season’s focus on Jesus and the values associated with him—kindness, generosity, and peace. In multicultural societies, Muslims often join in the spirit of goodwill, exchanging warm wishes and acknowledging the respect Christians show for a prophet whom Muslims also cherish. This recognition becomes an opportunity to highlight shared beliefs and foster mutual understanding between faiths.
