Smell Smoke In Southwest Riverside County? Here's Why
A fire burning in Camp Pendleton is sending drift smoke into the Temecula Valley. Here's what to know.
TEMECULA, CA — A brush fire that ignited on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is sending smoke across the De Luz plateau and into Temecula and Southwest Riverside County Monday afternoon.
According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, no other fires were actively burning in the Southwest Riverside County area at that time.
As of 4:15 p.m., the Oceanside-area blaze, reported at Range 501, was burning in moderate fuels with a moderate rate of spread, according to the base. The fire, called the Pipeline Fire, prompted an evacuation order for the base's 32 Area.

Smoke from the fire was expected to be visible to base residents, and a smoke advisory was released in north County San Diego. That smoke is also drifting into Southwest Riverside County, blanketing Temecula.
