Vacaville applies for veterans housing grant (thereporter.com) — Vacaville City Council has applied for a $45 million state Homekey+ grant to help build 52 deeply affordable veteran housing units at the planned Victory Gardens project on Vanden Road. The development would include additional below-market apartments, on-site services, and Vacaville Housing Authority vouchers, while labor groups raise concerns about construction practices and out-of-county workers.

Vacaville Elite Soccer Club enjoying inaugural season in NPSL (timesheraldonline.com) — Vacaville’s own semi-pro club, Vacaville Elite, is wrapping up its inaugural National Premier Soccer League season with home matches in nearby Vallejo this month. Founded to give local players a higher-level pathway while representing Vacaville and Solano County, the team now features a diverse roster including Travis Air Force Base players and standout recent high school graduates.
   

3. Prison altercation ends in death of incarcerated man (sanquentinnews.com) — An incarcerated man serving life without parole died after a January altercation at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, where staff found him unconscious and later transferred him to an outside hospital. Another incarcerated man survived and is now in restrictive housing while the prison’s Investigative Service Unit and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office investigate what led to the violence.
   

4. Pigeon found with pink wing likely dyed for gender reveal celebration, wildlife rescuers say (sandiegouniontribune.com) — A domesticated pigeon found exhausted in Vacaville with a pink-dyed wing is believed by wildlife rescuers to have been used in a gender reveal celebration. The bird was taken to Napa Wildlife Rescue and later adopted, as advocates warn that dyeing and releasing domestic birds is dangerous and urge residents to call rescues when they find injured animals.
   

5. Unions, business leaders rally for jobs and housing (fresnobee.com) — Union leaders and business advocates, including Vacaville resident Dan Reding and a union leader born in Vacaville, are pushing Solano County and state officials to fast-track jobs and housing projects like California Forever and the Suisun Expansion Plan. They argue these developments could replace lost industrial jobs, shorten commutes, and reshape the county’s economic future if local leaders cut through red tape.
