📰 News we're reading

1. Vacaville green-lights projects with 156 homes (pressdemocrat.com) — Vacaville has approved two new housing projects totaling 156 homes and folded them into community financing districts that will help fund police, fire, and other essential services for years to come. City leaders also advanced housing voucher plans that channel nearly $21 million annually into local rents for families, seniors, and residents with disabilities.

2. Vacaville City Council discusses cannabis under strategic plan (fresnobee.com) — Vacaville’s City Council has adopted a draft Strategic Plan to steer city decisions through 2029 and is weighing whether to study a regulated cannabis program. Councilmembers, the city manager, and the police chief debated potential tax revenue, youth safety, and enforcement, with most signaling only low-priority or cautious support for further analysis rather than immediate storefront cannabis businesses.

3. Good news for Vallejo, Vacaville renters: Rents dip just a tad (thereporter.com) — Vacaville renters are seeing a small bit of relief, with average monthly rents dipping about 1.5%, or roughly $31, compared with last year. Local property managers say Vacaville’s newer housing and family-oriented feel keep prices above Vallejo, but still far below San Francisco’s surging market, giving commuters and local families one of the Bay Area’s more affordable options.

4. Girls in Robotics Leadership Camp prioritizes STEM learning (timesheraldonline.com) — Vacaville families can sign up now for a free Girls in Robotics Leadership camp session at Solano Community College, running June 8–12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to all middle and high school students, the weeklong program focuses on hands-on robotics, coding, and leadership development. Organizers hope it boosts confidence, expands STEM access, and inspires new school robotics clubs.

5. Local Roundup: Vacaville boys volleyball clinches at least a share of first MEL title (fresnobee.com) — Vacaville High’s boys volleyball team has clinched at least a share of its first-ever Monticello Empire League title after sweeping Rodriguez, with a chance to win it outright Monday. Vanden and Vacaville Christian boys volleyball also scored key league wins, while Will C. Wood softball powered past River City behind a balanced hitting attack.
