• Supes discuss tax increase, utilities (timesheraldonline.com) — Solano County supervisors just voted to place a new business license tax on energy projects and data centers on the November ballot, a move that could affect future development countywide, including around Vallejo. They also moved toward placing liens on delinquent waste hauler accounts, including Recology Vallejo, and highlighted local breastfeeding support with an August 6 celebration in Fairfield that Vallejo families can attend.
   

• "California Forever" loses Saronic's $3B shipyard bid, thousands of jobs to Texas (cbsnews.com) — A major defense shipyard that could have brought 10,000 jobs to Solano County has instead gone to Texas, intensifying debate over California Forever’s plans and Mare Island’s role in Vallejo’s economic future. At a packed supervisors meeting, residents clashed over whether to back the billionaire-backed new city proposal or focus on existing shipbuilding assets while state officials now call the county “at an economic crossroads.”
   

• Vallejo police officer sped past fatal crash during pursuit, video shows (vallejosun.com) — A Vallejo police pursuit on July 14 ended in a fatal motorcycle crash on Sacramento Street, and surveillance video shows the pursuing officer speeding past the impact site. The victim’s family is questioning discrepancies between the video, dispatch audio, and the department’s account, and has consulted a civil rights attorney. The case raises fresh concerns about how Vallejo police handle high-speed chases in city neighborhoods.
