1. Robert I. Schroder Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation Project (ca.gov) — If you walk, bike, or drive near Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek, expect months of disruption while the Robert I. Schroder Pedestrian Bridge closes for rehabilitation starting October 5. Night work, lane closures, and several full road shutdowns will bring detours and delays, while Iron Horse Trail users are rerouted to street crossings until repairs wrap up around year's end.
   

2. A Major Walnut Creek Starbucks is Sadly Closing Forever Bay Area Telegraph (bayareatelegraph.com) — Downtown Walnut Creek is losing a longtime Starbucks at North California Boulevard and Cole Avenue, which will close permanently after Saturday, September 26 as part of a wider corporate downsizing. The shop, open since 2014 in the Mercer building, is one of about 250 North American locations being shuttered as Starbucks reviews underperforming stores. Nearby, customers can still visit the downtown Starbucks at 1340 N. Main Street.
   

3. Sur La Table To Reopen In Walnut Creek (whatnow.com) — A familiar kitchenware favorite is returning to Broadway Plaza, with Sur La Table set to reopen at 1205 Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek later this fall. The store will offer high-end cookware, bakeware, knives, and services like gift registries and knife sharpening, though no cooking classes are listed yet. It will occupy space next to the former P.F. Chang's location.
   

4. In brief: DeSaulnier, colleague introduce bill to let Big Tech be prosecuted (eastbaytimes.com) — Residents in Walnut Creek are represented in Congress by Mark DeSaulnier, who has just co-introduced a bill to phase out Section 230 and make it easier to sue big tech over online harms. The brief also highlights local opportunities, including AARP Tax-Aide volunteer roles across Contra Costa County, Diablo Women's Chorale's November "Dream Radio" concerts in Lafayette, and a Walnut Creek-based Community Concern for Cats photo contest for its 2027 calendar.
