• Oprah's Book Club Favorite Wins Contra Costa Pick For 2026 (patch.com) — Readers in Walnut Creek are invited to join the 2026 Read Contra Costa program, which has chosen Oakland author Leila Mottley's new novel, "The Girls Who Grew Big," as this year's countywide read. Running from October 1 through November 14, the library initiative encourages residents to read together and discuss the book, which is available in multiple formats through county libraries.

I pulled together free family activities in and around Pleasant Hill for the week ahead. A few highlights: - Martinez First Friday: Friday, 6–9pm… (Nextdoor Pleasant Hill Elementary) - Dear neighbors our Economy had gone down hill no matter who we blame or how we look at it.
