Ex-Yolo County sheriff's lieutenant pleads not guilty to murder in California fireworks blast (arcamax.com) — Court proceedings in Woodland are intensifying for a former Yolo County sheriff’s lieutenant and several others charged in connection with last summer’s deadly Esparto fireworks warehouse explosion. The lead defendant remains jailed without bail, with multiple arraignments and bail reviews set to continue in Yolo Superior Court over the coming weeks.

Court Watch: Judge Denies Release Despite Defense Claim of Urgent Need for Brain Surgery (davisvanguard.org) — In a Woodland courtroom, a judge kept a man in custody despite his defense saying he missed a scheduled, potentially life‑saving brain surgery when he was arrested. Prosecutors argued he poses public‑safety and compliance risks, citing prior erratic behavior and positive drug tests.
