📰 News we're reading

1. District 11 employee initiates lawsuit against top officials, alleging theft of confidential files (krdo.com) — A Colorado Springs School District 11 employee has filed a civil lawsuit accusing the superintendent and deputy superintendent of stealing confidential files, prompting an outside investigation. The school board says that probe found no wrongdoing and is standing behind district leadership, while declining further comment as the case moves through the courts.

2. New Medicaid rules are coming. Southern Colorado providers say prepare now (kktv.com) — Major Medicaid rule changes starting this fall could affect many Colorado Springs patients, especially those relying on coverage for medications and follow-up care. Local provider Peak Vista is urging residents to update their contact information and learn whether new work, school, or volunteer requirements and more frequent eligibility reviews will apply to them so they do not lose coverage unexpectedly.

3. Two arrested for attempted murder in southeast Colorado Springs shooting (fox21news.com) — Two suspects have been arrested after an August shooting that seriously injured a man on the southeast side of Colorado Springs near South Academy and East Fountain. Colorado Springs Police say warrants for the pair, both with prior records, led to their peaceful surrender at an apartment near South Academy and Hancock, and both are now jailed on attempted murder-related charges.

4. Colorado Springs 'snow school' returns to prep drivers and city equipment for wet weather (krdo.com) — City crews in Colorado Springs are back in "Snow School," a three-day training that puts more than 100 public works drivers behind the wheel to practice winter procedures and equipment use. City leaders say this annual September course helps avoid early-season mistakes and keeps plows, drivers, and residents safer once storms hit local roads.

5. Project Taurus decision postponed until after April's Colorado Springs election (cpr.org) — Colorado Springs City Council has delayed its final decision on the controversial Project Taurus AI data center until April 13, 2027, just after the next municipal election. After a tense, noisy meeting that saw three arrests, council members cited unresolved concerns about noise, zoning and trust in city oversight, while business leaders warned rejection could drive companies away from Colorado Springs.
