• New builds in Cortez required to be ready for solar energy and electric vehicles (the-journal.com) — New homes and commercial buildings in Cortez will now have to be wired and laid out so they’re ready for solar panels, efficient electric appliances, and electric vehicle charging, though owners aren’t required to install them. City Council narrowly approved the state-mandated code update, adding a waiver if costs exceed 1% of key construction expenses and debating impacts on housing affordability and the local electric grid.

• This National Park Alternative in Colorado Allows Only 30 Visitors per Day (afar.com) — Cortez is highlighted as the jumping-off point for Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Park, a quieter, tightly limited alternative to Mesa Verde that allows only 30 visitors a day. Guided half- and full-day tours led by Ute tribal members take guests to ancestral cliff dwellings and artifacts, with reservations required and options to camp or ride in park vehicles.
