1. More out of county bus service looks promising – The Crested Butte News (crestedbuttenews.com) — Bus riders between Crested Butte and Denver can count on two daily Bustang trips continuing under a newly signed contract, while regional leaders explore adding public transit between Gunnison and Montrose for medical and other trips. RTA officials are also planning a new Gunnison Transit Center, replacing an aging bus, and working with Alpine Express to improve communication about missed routes.
   

2. Pitas holds off Aces for win in season opener – The Crested Butte News (crestedbuttenews.com) — Crested Butte’s rec softball season opened at Tommy V Field with Pitas pulling away late to beat the Aces 14–6 after an early 8–0 lead shrank to a three-run margin. The game mixed early jitters, big extra-base hits, and a three-pitch final inning, while also honoring longtime local player and former ski patroller Frank Magri.
   

3. Mountain Roots to honor Hensley at 2026 Feast in the Field (gunnisontimes.com) — You’re invited to Feast in the Field at Red Dog Ranch in Crested Butte on Sunday, July 12, where Mountain Roots will honor longtime educator and former Crested Butte Elementary principal Sally Hensley. The farm-to-table fundraiser will launch the Growing Minds Education Fund, supporting school gardens, food education, and hands-on youth programs across the Gunnison Valley.
   

4. 'Adventures of Wonder' published by water conservancy district (gunnisontimes.com) — A new kids’ book from the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District turns a Mount Crested Butte snowflake into a guide through our local water cycle, from taps to ranches to rivers. First-graders across the Gunnison Watershed School District just took home free copies, giving local families a fun way to practice reading and learn how Upper Gunnison water supports daily life here.
   

5. Pitkin County breaks ground on McClure Pass Trail (aspentimes.com) — Work has started on the McClure Pass Trail, the first built segment of the long-envisioned 83‑mile Carbondale-to-Crested Butte non-motorized route that will eventually link our valley to the Crystal River corridor. This phase adds a tunnel under Highway 133, a new trailhead, and a converted historic road, with completion targeted before next winter and seasonal closures to protect wildlife.
