• The Fishing Pond (goldentoday.com) — Golden's longtime kids' fishing and skating pond in what became Lions Park began as a 1950s community project and grew into beloved annual fishing derbies. But heavy goose traffic and E. coli contamination eventually led City Council to fill in the pond in 2012, closing a nostalgic chapter in local recreation history.
