1. Fall burn season delayed due to wildfire risks (westernslopenow.com subscription) — If you live in Grand Junction, the usual September fall burn season is on hold because Mesa County remains under Stage Two fire restrictions and a No Burn Advisory. Mesa County Public Health won't issue burn permits until conditions improve and urges residents to watch its website and social media for weekly updates on when burning can safely resume.
   

2. Grand Junction police issue high-point speeding tickets (westernslopenow.com) — Grand Junction police are warning drivers after issuing steep penalties to two motorists clocked far over the speed limit, including one going 49 mph in a 25 mph school zone. Both incidents led to high-point tickets and a mandatory court appearance in one case, as officers stress that speeding on city streets, especially near children, isn't worth the risk.
   

3. Warrant forgiveness day for Mesa County (kjct8.com) — If you have an outstanding warrant in Mesa County, you can head to the Mesa County Justice Center or Grand Junction Municipal Court today from noon to 3 p.m. for Warrant Forgiveness Day. Judges and public defenders will help eligible residents resolve or reschedule many misdemeanor, traffic, and lower-level felony cases without arrests, aiming to rebuild trust and stability in the community.
   

4. Grand Junction woman spreads fentanyl awareness nationwide (kjct8.com) — A Grand Junction mother who lost her daughter to illicit fentanyl is now leading national awareness efforts through her group Facing Fentanyl and co-founding Armour Families. She helped establish National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day on August 21 and is urging local families to talk openly with youth, use online educational resources, and watch for a Colorado ballot measure addressing accountability and recovery support.
   

5. Museums of Western Colorado seeks new operator for Cross Orchards Historic Site (kjct8.com) — A major change is coming for Cross Orchards Historic Site in Grand Junction, as the Museums of Western Colorado plans to close it in January 2027 and seek a new operator to keep it open to the public. Leaders say the move is part of a broader plan to create a unified natural history museum campus in Fruita while preserving Cross Orchards' historic buildings and artifacts.
