County Announces $2 Million Reconstruction Plan for B 1/2 Rd (junctionnow.com) — Mesa County is planning a $2 million reconstruction of B 1/2 Road between 30 and 32 Roads, a key corridor serving Grand Junction-area neighborhoods. Instead of a short-term patch, officials propose full structural repairs, shoulder widening, and a new asphalt overlay, with design work targeted for 2027 and construction expected in 2028 pending budget approval.
   

2. Roice-Hurst Humane Society unveils Animal Care Campus (westernslopenow.com) — A major expansion at Roice-Hurst Humane Society in Grand Junction adds a veterinary clinic, adoption center, and volunteer hub, greatly increasing low-cost spay and neuter capacity for local pet owners. Using recycled construction trailers, the shelter kept costs down while freeing its mobile bus to serve more neighborhoods across the community. Residents can now access more affordable animal care and community events on the new patio.
   

3. Red Cross Announces Western Colorado Blood Drives (redcross.org) — Grand Junction residents will soon have a convenient chance to donate blood when the Red Cross hosts a drive on the Colorado Mesa University campus as part of a Western Colorado series from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2. With new locations in Fruita and Montrose as well, organizers stress that every donation helps rebuild supplies ahead of winter and holiday disruptions.
   

4. How are Canadian tariffs affecting Grand Valley businesses? (westernslopenow.com) — A Grand Junction–area manufacturer and Palisade farm are both feeling sharp cost increases from Canada's new retaliatory tariffs on steel, aluminum, and other inputs, and say they've had to raise prices significantly. Local leaders describe how tariffs, supply chain shifts, and drought are combining to push up prices for bike racks, fruit, wine packaging, and fertilizer, ultimately affecting Western Slope consumers.
   

5. Grand Valley honor guard marks 25 years since Sept. 11 with cemetery ceremony (kjct8.com) — In Grand Junction, the Veterans Memorial Cemetery and Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard marked the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a solemn morning ceremony. Local veterans and supporters gathered at 8:47 a.m. to honor those killed in the attacks and the military members, first responders, and civilians who later died as a result of that day's events.
