📰 News we're reading

• How Colorado's Peaks Prepared the Artemis II Astronauts for Their Lunar Mission (snowbrains.com) — Gypsum’s High-Altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site quietly played a key role in preparing Artemis II astronauts for their historic lunar flyby. NASA used the rugged terrain and tricky lighting around Gypsum to simulate the Moon’s challenging surface, helping the crew practice precision maneuvers that will inform a planned lunar landing later this decade.

• Budget cuts will make building affordable homes in Colorado's mountains even harder, housing advocates say (vaildaily.com) — Affordable homes in Gypsum’s Stratton Flats neighborhood, built by Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley, relied on state Proposition 123 dollars that lawmakers now plan to cut to plug a $1.5 billion budget gap. Housing advocates warn that redirecting $130 million from this voter-approved fund will slow or halt similar mountain-town projects, even as Eagle County’s median home price tops $2 million.
