📰 News we're reading

1. Man with alleged secret girlfriend charged in wife's death (fox21news.com) — A Lakewood art teacher, Lindsey Barnett, was found dead in her Lakewood home, and her husband Patrick "Ted" Barnett now faces murder and evidence-tampering charges. An affidavit details inconsistencies in his story, a reported secret girlfriend, and signs Lindsey likely died in bed before being moved. Her schools have notified families and are offering support as the community grieves.

2. Husband charged with murder after claiming wife with postpartum depression killed herself, reports say (azfamily.com) — Lakewood police say 37-year-old Lindsey Barnett was found dead in her home on Aug. 13, and her husband Patrick has now been charged with first-degree murder. Investigators allege the scene didn't match his claim that she died by suicide linked to postpartum depression, and family members told police she hadn't recently shown suicidal behavior. He's due in Jefferson County court Friday.

3. Interior paid $156 million for employees not to work (eenews.net) — Lakewood's federal workforce is directly touched by Interior's costly 'deferred resignation' program, which paid 222 Lakewood‑based employees not to work before they left their jobs. The report details how Trump‑era downsizing at Interior racked up over $150 million in paid leave just in the secretary's office, raising questions about waste and the loss of experienced staff.

4. Cobblestone Car Wash to pay $1.3 million to consumers over auto-renewal violations (denver7.com) — From Lakewood, state officials announced Cobblestone Car Wash will repay over $1.3 million to about 70,000 Colorado customers for unfair auto‑renewal practices. If you've used Cobblestone's monthly memberships, you could see refunds and clearer cancellation options, including advance notice of price hikes and a simple one‑step online cancel link.
