Historic Montrose hotel wins award from Downtown Colorado Inc (westernslopenow.com) — A historic downtown Montrose building reborn as the Rathbone Hotel has just been honored as Colorado’s “Best Project Small Community,” highlighting its big role in revitalizing Main Street. After a decade-long vacancy and major renovation challenges, the 17-room boutique hotel is now credited by city leaders with boosting foot traffic, inspiring new restaurant openings, and strengthening Montrose’s Western heritage identity.
   

2. Montrose School Board to weigh closing Pomona or Northside (kvnf.org) — Montrose families should know the school board is weighing whether to close Pomona Elementary or Northside Elementary in response to budget pressures and declining enrollment. After reviewing data this week, board members delayed any decision until April 28 to allow more analysis and community input, stressing that no closure choice has been made yet.
   

3. Teen pleads guilty for attempted murder in Montrose Halloween party shooting (westernslopenow.com) — A local teen has pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder in connection with a 2025 Halloween party shooting that seriously injured a 19-year-old near Chipeta Drive in Montrose. Under a proposed plea deal, he’d serve seven years in the Youthful Offender System with a longer DOC sentence suspended, and is set for a May hearing and August sentencing at the Montrose County Courthouse.
   

4. Snow will fall Friday morning, then Friday night freezes (kjct8.com) — Snow is expected around Montrose early this morning with up to a couple inches possible, followed by gusty winds and clearing skies later in the day. A Freeze Warning tonight into Saturday morning includes Montrose, with lows in the low 20s that could damage pipes, sprinklers, and tender plants if not protected.
