Bands of heavy snow, falling at a rate of up to two inches per hour, are possible throughout the morning.

“Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow,” the National Weather Service reports. “Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.”

According to the National Weather Service, the snowfall will taper off between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by cloudy and windy conditions tonight.

WFSB reports the peak of the storm will be this morning through noon, with “significant snow accumulation still expected on top of the snow that has already fallen.”

As of Monday morning, WFSB is predicting the blizzard will result in between 10 and 16 inches of heavy, wet snow for most of Connecticut, with slightly less accumulation in the northern Connecticut River valley, and slightly more near the Rhode Island border.

WFSB reports there is minor current coastal flooding, particularly in southwestern parts of the state.

WTNH meteorologists predict heavy, wet snow to fall at a rate of up to three inches per hour, “creating whiteout conditions at times” today. According to WTNH, strong winds will gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour, with thundersnow possible.

“Snow continues through midday before tapering later in the afternoon,” WTNH reports.

WTNH predicts the total accumulations will be between 12 and 18 inches, with some locally higher amounts of two feet.

The National Weather Service recommends restricting travel to emergencies only today. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you, and if you get stranded, stay in your vehicle, it advises.

The wind, combined with the weight of snow on tree limbs, is expected to cause sporadic power outages today.
