Connecticut Just Approved A Pizza License Plate — Here's When You Can Get It

Connecticut drivers could soon show off their pizza pride everywhere they go with a new specialty license plate.

Lawmakers approved a provision in the state budget authorizing the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue "Pizza State" commemorative plates. The budget now awaits the governor's signature.

The DMV would be able to issue the specialty plates beginning July 1, 2026, according to the bill.

The vanity plates would put Connecticut's claim as a pizza capital on full display, while directing proceeds from specialty plate fees to Connecticut Foodshare, a statewide food bank.

The plate would cost $65 in addition to regular registration fees, with $50 going toward a dedicated "Pizza State" account to support the food program and $15 covering administrative costs.

Drivers could also make an additional voluntary donation when renewing their registration.

The DMV commissioner would determine the plate's final design and could allow the image to be used on merchandise like clothing or memorabilia to further support the program.
