CT 3rd Congressional District Race: DeLauro Claims Victory Over Lancia

The polls have closed in the 2026 elections, and here are the latest updates on how residents voted in the 3rd Congressional District race.

Incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro has claimed victory to a 19th term in the 3rd Congressional District by defeating Republican challenger Christopher Lancia, according to the New Haven Independent.

While the Associated Press has yet to call the race, the Independent reports DeLauro delivered a fiery victory speech before 75 to 80 supporters at the Shubert Theatre on Tuesday night.

With Democrats looking to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives, DeLauro could regain her role as chair of the Appropriations Committee, where she currently serves as ranking Democrat.

Lancia didn't exactly concede the race late Tuesday night, but announced in a post on Facebook that he was going to bed around 10:15 p.m.

"To everyone who supported me throughout this journey, I am extremely, extremely thankful. I honestly cannot thank you enough," Lancia wrote in the post. "Not all the numbers have come in yet, and while the race may have already been called, there are still votes being counted. At this point, I’m exhausted, and I’m going to bed.

"If I wake up tomorrow morning and the results say Christopher Lancia is your next congressman, then I’ll be ready to get to work. If I wake up and Rosa DeLauro has won, I’ll pick up the phone, congratulate her, and wish her the best.

"That’s just who I am.

"I have nothing but respect for the people I ran alongside, the people I met, and everyone who took the time to listen to me over these past 18 months."

DeLauro is a founding member of the Progressive Caucus, and was the author of numerous bills, including The Paycheck Fairness Act and the Child Tax Credit.

“For Rosa, her work has been and will always be about helping people,” according to her campaign profile. “Since coming to Congress, she has built a reputation as a hard-working, passionate, and forthright advocate for her constituents, an honest broker who works with members of all parties, and a leader on matters of domestic and social policy. She has helped improve schools, bring tax relief to middle-class families, protect employee pensions, and encourage job creation in Connecticut.”

Lancia, 55, is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and former federal law enforcement officer.

Lancia is running for Congress because “he believes Connecticut—and America—deserves better,” according to his campaign website.

“His decision to run was not made lightly, but came after witnessing policies that deeply troubled him: biological men in women’s sports, tampons in boys’ restrooms, and Americans being forced to choose between a vaccine or their livelihood,” reads a post on his campaign website. “He believes in standing up for common sense, parental rights, and individual freedoms. He’s ready to fight for working families, law and order, and the values that make America strong.

“Chris Lancia is running to give the people of Connecticut a voice—and to help President Donald Trump finish what he started: putting America First.”
