CT Radio Station Names New News Director, Weekday Afternoon Host

Veteran Connecticut radio and television personality Allison Demers has joined WIHS 104.9 FM as faith and ministry news director and weekday afternoon drive host, Connecticut Radio Fellowship Board President Drew Crandall announced on Facebook.

Demers' first afternoon shift at the Connecticut Christian station was 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.

"I love the Lord and people, so to me, this isn't work, it's ministry," Demers said in a statement. "I'm grateful for and enthused about this opportunity to minister in my home state through WIHS."

A Waterbury native who lives in Litchfield County, Demers has worked in Connecticut radio and television for 30 years. She began her broadcasting career in 1996 at MetroNetworks in Hartford, where she served as news bureau chief, news reporter, sports reporter and morning drive traffic reporter.

In 1998, she became morning show co-host and newscaster on "The Glenn Beck Show with Vinnie Penn" on WKCI 101.3 FM in Hamden. In 2000, she joined WRCH 100.5 FM in Farmington as a morning show personality on the "Allan, Mike and Allison Show" and later served as news director and public affairs director.

Demers joined WTIC 1080 AM in Farmington in 2013 as a fill-in newscaster, traffic reporter, social media coordinator and website coordinator.

In 2015, she became morning show co-host of "Tom Chute and You" and news director at WATR 1320 AM in Waterbury. Two years later, she joined the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Radio and Television in Waterbury as a television co-host and reporter for "Crossroads Magazine" and as an on-air announcer for WJMJ 88.9 FM.

Most recently, Demers worked as a lifestyle reporter for CT Buzz and co-host of "Fuch's Financial" on WTNH-TV 8 in New Haven. She also served as an on-air host, public service director, programming director and host of the "Community Access" program on WHCN 105.9 FM in Hartford. She was laid off by iHeartMedia in April because of company budget reductions.

"I've known Allison for decades and highly respect her as a broadcasting professional and admire her as a long-time, committed Christian," Crandall said. "I believe that she will be an outstanding addition to the WIHS staff."

The hire has drawn raves from fans and colleagues.

"Welcome to the WIHS family - so happy to have you on our team!!" wrote co-worker Robin Hansen on Facebook.

Added a fan, "Congratulations Allison!!! God's blessings to your amazing future with WIHS. Such an a special ministry with wonderful people to work with!!!"

Another wrote, "Congratulations Allie. Wishing you all the best on your new adventure."

Demers announced her appointment while serving as emcee of the WIHS Saints & Patriots celebration at the WIHS Amphitheater on July 25.
