Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding Concerns Forecast For CT

We're looking at another strong storm that will bring significant impacts to Connecticut.

The National Weather Service said a "slow moving" storm will result in "periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms" across Connecticut.

"There is potential for isolated to scattered flash flooding late tonight through Monday," according to the weather service.

Up to three inches of rain could fall in parts of Connecticut, though an average of 1 to 2 inches is more likely for most places.

The highest risk for flash flooding is in southwestern Connecticut. There is also a chance for severe thunderstorms too, including damaging wind gusts, during Sunday afternoon into Monday.

"Monday is a *First Alert Weather Day* as an approaching front combined with tropical moisture brings us once again the potential for heavy rain and storms," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Impacts to outdoor plans are likely. Also, given the recent rainfall, the ground is saturated and can’t absorb a lot more water - so we’ll be watching for a localized flooding threat. Some of the storms may also be strong or severe, and the Storm Prediction Center has us in a level 1 (out of 5) threat for severe storms. The rest of the week isn’t looking like a washout, but a lot of moisture remains in the air, leading to a shower chance each day. Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be brighter and drier with only isolated showers developing, but Thursday and Friday’s showers look more numerous." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
