Major Coastal Storm Emerges In Forecast: Here Are The Expected Impacts On CT
Find out the latest timing and expected precipitation totals for this week's wintry weather, according to meteorologists.
Snow, freezing rain and rain are all in the forecast for Connecticut this week, according to meteorologists.
For today, expect rain through most of the day, according to WTNH. Colder air will move into Connecticut this evening, and the rain will change over to snow in northern portions of the state, the station reported.
WTNH predicts northern Connecticut could get between a coating and two inches of snow today.

In southern Connecticut and along the shore, the rain is expected to change over to a wintry mix and freezing rain, according to WTNH. Today’s precipitation will end by around 11 p.m. tonight, the station reported.
Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, potentially making for slick roadways later today and into Thursday morning, according to WTNH.

WFSB is calling today a “First Alert Weather Day,” due to the impacts on travel. It predicts today’s rain will transition to snow around sunset as cold air moves into the state.
“As we see it now, the greatest threat will be to the evening commute and points thereafter,” WFSB reported Wednesday morning.
WFSB reports there will be between a coating and two inches of snow accumulation for inland Connecticut, especially closer to the Massachusetts border.
Thursday during the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Another bout of precipitation
Wintry weather will return on Friday, which is a “bigger concern” than today’s weather system, according to WTNH.
“A prolonged period of freezing rain, rain and snow looks possible early in the day, which could create a more significant impact for the morning commute before a gradual changeover to plain rain, especially along the shoreline,” WTNH reports.
Inland areas of Connecticut could get a wintry mix throughout the day on Friday, according to WTNH. The station predicts a coating to one inch in southern Connecticut, and between one and four inches in northern Connecticut on Friday.
WFSB is calling Friday another “First Alert Weather Day,” and it anticipates there will be snow transitioning to a wintry mix and then rain, adversely impacting commutes.
Tracking a late weekend storm
WFSB predicts Saturday and Sunday will be dry, though some isolated snow showers “cannot be ruled out.”
Meteorologists are tracking a large ocean storm and whether or not it will have any impact on Connecticut.
If it does, it would be in the Sunday night into Monday timeframe, according to forecasters.
As of Wednesday morning, WTNH reports the storm is looking like “a miss” with any heavy snow staying offshore, reporting it “seems to be moving further to the south and less of an impact here now.”

WFSB says it is watching Monday’s forecast closely.
“While longer range model guidance have a coastal storm developing late Sunday into Monday, what is uncertain is the track it takes relative to CT,” WFSB reports. “Be sure to check back as this is an evolving situation.”
