Rhode Island Man Claims Bigfoot Sighting In Connecticut Woods

VOLUNTOWN, CT — A reported Bigfoot sighting in Voluntown has sparked curiosity — and a few jokes — after a Rhode Island man claimed he encountered the legendary creature.

Kevin Klimas, of Westerly, Rhode Island, submitted an account to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) claiming he saw a large, bipedal creature. Klimas was driving near the intersection of Wylies School Road and Forge Hill Road around 1:44 a.m. July 5 when he saw the creature cross the street and enter the woods.

According to the report, Klimas stopped his vehicle after seeing what he described as an 8- to 8½-foot-tall creature covered in long brown hair with broad shoulders and unusually long arms.

"Make no mistake. This was not a bear," Klimas wrote in the report. "This was a cryptid."

The BFRO, which investigates reported Bigfoot sightings, classified the submission as a Class A sighting, a designation the organization uses for reports it believes have a low likelihood of involving a misidentified animal. The group's investigators said they interviewed Klimas and considered him a credible witness.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said it is aware of the report but did not receive any calls related to the alleged sighting.

The report also prompted a lighthearted response from Voluntown First Selectman Brian Muschiano.

According to CT Insider, Muschiano joked that a male Bigfoot had recently been spotted at Town Hall "paying his taxes" before fleeing and leaving behind a giant footprint.

The BFRO maintains a public database of reported Bigfoot sightings across the country, including several from Connecticut. No physical evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate the Voluntown report.
