Rain showers are expected early Thursday, then WFSB anticipates snow could mix in for northwestern parts of the state by mid to late morning.

“By late afternoon and into the evening commute time, we could see the switch to snow elsewhere as temps continue their downward progression, from the 40s into the 30s,” WFSB meteorologists said.

How much snow to expect

WFSB predicts any snow accumulation will be on non-paved surfaces. It predicts the northwest hills will get between one and two inches of snow, while the rest of the state could get a coating to an inch.

“Given how warm it has been, roads will just be wet,” WFSB reports.

It will be windy today also, with gusts of up to 30 miles per hour, according to WFSB.

WTNH meteorologists predict rain showers through the afternoon, followed by light snow developing this afternoon and evening, with a coating to one inch possible for some areas.

The National Weather Service’s New York City office reports temperatures will fall throughout the day and tonight, dipping down to the upper 20s. It predicts widespread rain this afternoon and evening, with some wet snow mixing in this evening. It predicts “little to no snow accumulation” in southern Connecticut, and a coating to an inch in northern sections.

Flooding concerns

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Thursday due to minor flooding anticipated until Saturday morning on the Housatonic River at the Stevenson Dam.

“The river will rise above flood stage this morning to 11.3 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage early Saturday morning,” the statement said.

Flood stage is at 11 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
