The National Weather Service predicts the wintry mix may last into Tuesday night.
WFSB is calling Tuesday a “First Alert Weather Day,” and it cautions that the wintry weather could “create slick travel conditions in the PM/evening.”
WFSB predicts the weather will begin as snow, moving in from the southwest by mid to late morning on Tuesday.
“By noon most of Connecticut will be seeing snow,” WFSB reports. “From south to north, the snow will briefly mix before changing over to plain rain.”
In the northwest and northeast hill areas, the wintry mix will last into the evening Tuesday, according to WFSB. These areas will have the “greatest potential for slick spots on untreated surfaces,” WFSB reports.
For Tuesday night, freezing rain could linger in the areas of higher elevation, while the rest of the state will get plain rain, according to WFSB.
“A light coating of snow in southern and valley locations will likely wash away, while the hills could see a coating up to 1 inch, with isolated amounts near 2 inches, along with a light glaze of ice,” WFSB reports.
WTNH reports Tuesday will bring “light snow inland,” with a change to mixed precipitation later in the day. It predicts the shoreline will initially get mixed precipitation rather than snow. For Tuesday night, WTNH anticipates all areas will get rain.
“Rain becomes moderate to briefly heavy overnight, into the early morning hours of Wednesday,” WTNH reports.
As Wednesday progresses, there will be gradual clearing and milder temperatures, according to the National Weather Service. It predicts a warming trend for the remainder of the week, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 40s and low 50s, potentially reaching as high as 60 degrees inland on Sunday.
