Warshauer will examine how the Connecticut River divided political, religious, and economic interests within the colony, influencing Connecticut's path toward revolution.
On July 16, Warshauer will present "Connecticut's Declaration of Independence," a newly updated lecture, at West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road.
The presentation explores Connecticut's own declaration of independence and how events in June 1776, along with the Connecticut Courant and Thomas Paine's pamphlet Common Sense, shaped support for independence in the colony.
The series concludes July 23 with "The American Revolution Wasn't Fueled by Water! Rum, Cider, and the Punch of Independence," at the Avon Free Public Library.
The lecture will examine the role taverns and alcoholic beverages played in organizing resistance to British rule and fostering the revolutionary movement.
Warshauer is a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University and frequently lectures on Connecticut's colonial and Revolutionary War history.
Registration is required for each event individually through the Avon Free Public Library.
The July 9 and July 23 lectures will be held at the library, while the July 16 program will take place at West Avon Congregational Church.
