Avon Police To Collect Unwanted Drugs

AVON, CT — Avon residents looking to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription medications can do so Saturday, Oct. 24, during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The Avon Police Department will collect old, expired, and no longer needed medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the department's lobby at 60 W. Main St.

The collection is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a nationwide initiative encouraging residents to properly dispose of medications they no longer need.

The program aims to prevent prescription drug misuse and reduce the risks associated with keeping unused medications in homes.

Improper disposal of medications, including flushing them down toilets or throwing them in household trash, can also pose environmental and safety concerns.

Residents are encouraged to check their medicine cabinets for unwanted or expired medications and bring them to the police department during the four-hour collection period.
