• Avon/St. Paul co-op squad looks to be competitive, pick up wins together (collinsvillepress.com) — Avon High's football team is launching its first-ever co-op with St. Paul Catholic this fall, aiming to bounce back from consecutive 1-9 seasons with a deeper, more balanced offense. Home games at Avon High begin Thursday, Sept. 10 against Northwest Catholic, with key matchups against Simsbury for the Route 44 trophy and several CCC rivals that local fans can circle on their calendars now.

• 'Route 91 bandit' sentenced for bank robbery spree involving 7 Connecticut banks (wtnh.com) — A Massachusetts man nicknamed the "Route 91 bandit" has been sentenced to 90 months in prison for a multi-state bank robbery spree that included Liberty Bank in Avon in 2021. Authorities tied him to 14 robberies and one attempt across New England, using DNA from discarded money wrappers, and he's been ordered to pay over $82,000 in restitution.
