Large Quantity Of Drugs Seized After Suspect Flees Woodbridge Accident: PD

A New Haven man is facing multiple drug and weapon-related charges, according to police.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — What started as a minor motor vehicle accident turned into a drug bust Tuesday night, according to police.

Chief of Police Ronald Smith said police responded to Baldwin Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident around 8:45 p.m.

No one was injured in the crash, according to police.

While en route to the accident, police learned the driver was removing the license plate and trying to flee.

Police arrived and found Jaivon Williams walking in the area. According to police, he acknowledged his involvement in the accident.

Williams left a backpack containing a firearm near his vehicle, according to police. The handgun had 21 bullets in the magazine and one chambered round. The bag also contained drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.

When police searched Williams’ vehicle, they found more drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Police seized three bags of cocaine and fentanyl, and four bags of marijuana and fentanyl, the gun and drug paraphernalia.

Williams, 20, a New Haven resident, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon and large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of 1kg or more of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of more than a half ounce of cocaine with intent to sell, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Police also charged him with interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plates, and failure to obey a stop sign.

Williams was held overnight on a $500,000 bond and transported to Superior Court in New Haven on Wednesday. He is next due in court today, court records show.
