Reinstallation Of Branford’s 'Iconic' Downtown Streetlights Includes Upgraded Wiring System

BRANFORD, CT—Described as iconic and beloved, the historic and charming streetlights that illuminate Main Street in downtown Branford are set to return as part of the Main Street Reconstruction project.

"Exciting progress is on the horizon as work begins this week to reinstall Branford’s iconic streetlights, along with a completely upgraded wiring system," the town noted in a news release Monday. "While preserving the historic character that residents and visitors have come to recognize, these beloved fixtures are receiving a thoughtful refurbishment designed to serve the community for years to come."

Described as an "enduring symbol of Branford’s history and charm," each existing pole is being restored and repainted and the lights outfitted with new fixtures featuring energy-efficient LED technology, the town noted.

"The upgraded lighting has been selected with appropriate wattage and color temperature in mind, providing improved visibility, enhanced safety, and a warm, welcoming appearance along Main Street," according to the release.

The town said that in order to restore street lighting as quickly as possible and minimize disruption to the public, the existing poles and fixtures are being reinstalled prior to being refurbished.

"Please be assured that the current weathered appearance of these poles and fixtures is temporary; full restoration will take place on-site as weather and temperatures allow," the town said.

"By blending modern technology with historic preservation, this project honors Branford’s past while investing in its future," a statement reads. "Residents can look forward to seeing these refreshed landmarks shine once again, illuminating our streets and showcasing Branford's unique character."
