1. 1-Year Moratorium Adopted On New Smoke Shops In Bridgeport: Report (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents will see a pause on any new smoke shops for a year as city officials work on tougher rules and a stricter permitting process. With roughly 50 shops already operating, some near schools and churches, leaders cite quality-of-life concerns and recent police raids involving illegal cannabis as reasons for the moratorium.

Teen arrested in Bridgeport murder of basketball star (newportdispatch.com) — Bridgeport police say a 17-year-old city resident has surrendered in the fatal shooting of former Bullard Havens basketball standout Leon Richardson, who was found shot in a parked car on Catherine Street last month. The teen faces a murder charge that will move to adult court, and Richardson's killing marked the city's fifth homicide of 2026, with a sixth slaying days later at P.T. Barnum Homes still under investigation.

4. Driver accused in fatal Connecticut hit-and-run was going 54 mph in 25 mph zone, warrant says (ctpost.com) — Bridgeport residents are learning more about a July 2025 hit-and-run where police say a local man drove more than twice the speed limit before fatally striking an 81-year-old pedestrian at Park and Maplewood avenues. A detailed warrant describes surveillance footage, vehicle damage, and DNA evidence, and notes he's now free on a $300,000 bond ahead of a September court date in Bridgeport.
