📰 News we're reading

• Bridgeport Police Seek Person Of Interest In Fatal Shooting (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents are being urged to help police identify a person of interest in the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of 46-year-old former P.T. Barnum resident Johnny Nesmith outside Building 21. Detectives say many people were nearby when Nesmith was shot multiple times and are asking witnesses or anyone with cellphone video to contact the Bridgeport Police Homicide Unit or Detective Jeffrey Holtz directly.

• UK Citizen Sentenced For Unlawful Reentry To U.S. After Bridgeport Arrest: Feds (patch.com) — A United Kingdom citizen first arrested in Bridgeport under an alias has been sentenced in federal court for unlawfully reentering the U.S. after removal to Canada. His Bridgeport arrest on state charges helped uncover a trail of alleged fraud and larceny cases across Connecticut and several other states, and he is expected to be deported to the U.K. after serving his sentences.

• Proposal would keep minor league hockey playing at Bridgeport's arena (ctpost.com) — Bridgeport's downtown arena could keep professional hockey if a new bidder's plan to launch a minor league expansion team is chosen over competing proposals that would scrap the ice. City and state officials are weighing six bids, including one from amphitheater developer Howard Saffan that seeks major public funding and eliminates sports. The decision will shape winter crowds, downtown restaurants, and the arena's economic impact for decades.
