(ctpost.com) — Bridgeport families can expect a new day off starting in the 2027-28 school year, when Eid al-Adha joins the districtwide holiday calendar alongside Eid al-Fitr and other observances. School board members and local Muslim leaders say recognizing Eid al-Adha helps Bridgeport Public Schools affirm students of different faiths and cultures and give them the same sense of belonging as their peers.

Residents Urged to Report Flood-Related Damage (doingitlocal.com) — Bridgeport residents who suffered flooding or property damage on September 13 are being urged to complete the state's CrisisTrack survey by September 22 so officials can document local impacts and pursue possible federal aid. While the form doesn't guarantee assistance, Mayor Joe Ganim stresses that detailed reports from Bridgeport households will strengthen the city's case for recovery resources; residents needing help now can call 911, 203-576-7671, or 211.
   

3. MATCH PREVIEW: Inter Miami CF II Closes Out 2026 MLS NEXT Pro Season Against CT United This Sunday (intermiamicf.com) — A professional MLS NEXT Pro matchup is coming to Bridgeport this Sunday, when CT United FC hosts Inter Miami CF II at the University of Bridgeport's Knights Field. Local fans can catch top-tier developmental soccer in person at 2 p.m., or stream it free online through the league's website and OneFootball.
   

4. Bridgeport councilwoman arrested after alleged verbal threat at parking hearing (wtnh.com) — A Bridgeport city councilwoman, Maria Pereira, was charged with disorderly conduct after police say she verbally threatened another person during a City Council ordinance committee meeting about school bus parking rules. Officers at the Bridgeport hearing determined there was probable cause, issued her a misdemeanor summons, and released her at the scene while the committee weighed changes to municipal parking regulations affecting bus drivers.
   

5. Cuban man from Bristol becomes United States citizen after years of waiting (nbcconnecticut.com) — A long-time Connecticut resident from Bristol finally took his oath of citizenship at Bridgeport federal court after 17 years of delays, health scares, and an immigration pause. His family credits persistence, legal advocacy, and a court ruling overturning the pause for getting his case back on track, and now hopes to secure citizenship for his son as well.
