With most positions now filled and audit recommendations implemented, district leaders say they're focused on stronger literacy, math, and support for multilingual learners and students with disabilities across Bridgeport.
   

2. Death of woman found inside burnt car in Bridgeport ruled a suicide (news12.com) — Authorities have ruled that the woman found in a burned car Thursday at the entrance to Elton Rogers Woodland Park in Bridgeport died by suicide. Using dental records, officials identified her as a 59-year-old Trumbull mother, while Bridgeport police are withholding her name as neighbors and Sacred Heart University students process the disturbing scene.
   

3. Bridgeport player claims final $200K 100X The Cash prize (ncadvertiser.com) — A Bridgeport resident has claimed the final $200,000 top prize in the 100X The Cash scratch-off game, bought at Delicious Express Market on Maplewood Avenue. The Connecticut Lottery says this was the last big winner in the game, whose odds at that level were 1 in 600,000, and now keeps winners' names private without permission.
   

4. Previously convicted Waterbury drug dealer sentenced 5 years for most recent offense (fox61.com) — A federal judge in Bridgeport has sentenced 55-year-old Waterbury resident Felix Narvaez to five years in prison, plus four years of supervised release, for possessing a gun in furtherance of drug trafficking. Investigators say controlled buys in 2024 led to his arrest and the seizure of a loaded handgun, cocaine, and cash, highlighting ongoing regional drug enforcement.
   

5. Connecticut residents wage legal fight against state's IQ requirements for disability services (ctpost.com) — A Bridgeport young adult is one of four plaintiffs suing Connecticut over what they call an unfair IQ cutoff that blocks access to state disability services. The case argues the rigid threshold violates constitutional protections and ignores medical standards, potentially affecting many local families who rely on DDS support. Lawmakers have debated reforms, but advocates say change has been too slow.
