53rd Annual Town-Wide Food Drive To Be Held In Cheshire

CHESHIRE, CT — The 53rd Annual Town-Wide Cheshire Food Drive will take place this weekend at First Congregational Church Green, 111 Church Drive, and at Cheshire Stop & Shop.

The food drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8. The event is rain or shine.

“This annual drive through collection staffed by volunteers brings together the community including scout troops, youth sport teams and students from across Cheshire who work together to collect nonperishable food items and raise money for Cheshire’s Food Voucher program,” according to organizers. “Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join.”

This year’s goals are to raise $50,000 to fund the town's Food Voucher Program and collecting over 20,000 food items to stock the food pantry shelves.

“Cheshire’s Food Voucher program is one of the few year-round community-funded programs in Connecticut and is fully funded by Cheshire Food Drive, Inc.,” organizers wrote. “It provides $60 for individuals and $80 for families of four or more to help residents buy the groceries and personal care items they need. Cheshire Food Drive directly reimburses the grocery stores, so every dollar goes straight to feeding local families.”
