DARIEN, CT — Darien's Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled next week to continue public hearings on a proposed 34-suite salon business in the downtown commercial district and a remanded application involving expanded use of lighting and the public address system at Darien High School's Stadium Field.

The commission will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in Room 206 at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road. The meeting is scheduled to be held in person.

One of the meeting's agenda items is the continued public hearing on an application from Image Studios Darien seeking approval to establish a salon suite business at 800 Boston Post Road. The proposal calls for 34 salon studios for independent salon professionals in approximately 6,564 square feet of second-floor space at the property in the Central Business District.

The commission is also scheduled to continue proceedings on a remanded application involving Darien High School Stadium.

The matter returns to the commission following a Superior Court order directing it to consider the town's sound and noise regulations and appropriate conditions related to a previously approved amendment to a special permit.

The original application proposed amending the zoning regulations and a special permit to allow the stadium's lighting and public address facilities to be used for nonprofit educational and community purposes beyond athletic activities. It also sought expanded hours and days for the use of the lighting and public address system and to permit community-wide events, including activities by organizations unaffiliated with the town or school district.

During the general meeting, commissioners are expected to continue discussing and reviewing the draft 2026 Plan of Conservation and Development, the town's long-range planning document that guides future land use and development decisions.

The agenda also includes consideration of proposed amendments to a special permit and site plan approval for 49 Tokeneke Road involving a new tenant for the space previously approved for SoNo Bakery.

Commission members also may hold deliberations on any public hearings that are closed during the July 14 meeting. The agenda additionally includes the chairman's report, the director's report and other business, if added by a two-thirds vote of the commission.
