Darien Public Schools To Close Monday, Feb. 23
Staff professional development was scheduled for Monday in Darien Public Schools.
DARIEN, CT — Darien Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne announced Sunday afternoon that the scheduled staff professional development has been cancelled for Monday, Feb. 23, due to the major snowstorm that's expected to impact the region over the next 24 hours.
Access to school buildings will only be open for facilities and custodial staff. All athletics and extracurricular activities have been cancelled.
DPS had its winter break last week, but there were no classes scheduled for Feb. 23 because of the professional development.

A blizzard warning has been issued for all of southern Connecticut as 60 mph wind gusts are possible Sunday night into Monday.

The heavy snow moves in this evening and really ramps up at night and Monday morning with snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour expected.
Coastal sections of Connecticut could see total snow accumulations between 16 and 24 inches. Snow accumulations between 16 and 20 inches are possible for inland areas.
The National Weather Service said travel conditions could be "treacherous" at the height of the storm. The snow should begin to ease up Monday afternoon.
"I am urging everyone to plan ahead and stay off the roads on Sunday night and through at least Monday morning," Gov. Ned Lamont said.
