Decision Made On Classes At Darien Public Schools For Feb. 24
A powerful winter storm ripped through the region Sunday into Monday, bringing over a foot of snow across Connecticut.
DARIEN, CT — Due to the intense blizzard that ripped through the region Sunday into Monday, classes scheduled for Feb. 24 in Darien Public Schools have been cancelled.
DPS Superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne said in an email to families the decision was made due to the "extensive cleanup required and hazardous road conditions."
"Our facilities and custodial crews have been working all day and will continue tomorrow to prepare the schools for a safe reopening on Wednesday," Byrne wrote. "All athletics, extracurricular activities and the Board of Education meeting are canceled."

The state of Connecticut does not allow for virtual learning days.
Approximately 15,000 customers were out of power across Connecticut as of mid-day Monday, officials said.

Utility companies have brought in crews from nearby states and Canada to help with power restoration, which could take as long as between two and five days, depending on the extent of the outages, officials said.
Luckily, Eversource reported zero outages in Darien as of 5:45 p.m. Monday.
Overnight street parking in town is banned from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to allow for safe and effective snow and ice removal. The parking ban is in effect until March 1. Violations may result in a $99 fine, according to the town.
Residents are being encouraged to clear a three-foot space in every direction around nearby fire hydrants to allow safe access for first responders.
It was not immediately clear Monday evening what the status of Town Hall is for Tuesday.
