Obituary: Pauline C. Condon (Porto Funeral Homes)

Porto Funeral Homes (East Haven/West Haven)

Pauline Condon, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born and raised in Boston, MA, she was a resident of East Haven for more than sixty years, including the last three years at the Village at Mariners Point.

The daughter of the late Francis and Teresa (Monaghan) Wright, Pauline attended Blessed Sacrament School in Jamaica Plain. Her parents, both from Ireland, instilled in her an Irish delight in song and storytelling. Pauline inherited from her father a love of adventure and from her mother a deep Catholic faith.

In 1961, Pauline married a young man also from Jamaica Plain, Walter Condon, who sadly predeceased her in 1994. They created a loving life together, and raised their two children, Cheryl and Sean, instilling in them many things, including the idea that it’s always fun to hop in the car for an impromptu day trip. Pauline will always be remembered for the fun and humor she brought to her family and to the neighborhood children.

Pauline had several jobs outside of raising her family through the years, including as “the cafeteria lady” at Ferrara Elementary School and as a cashier for the State of Connecticut, where she made lifelong friendships with her fellow cashiers.

But Pauline’s love of travel led to her “retirement career” of over 25 years as a travel agent and tour guide leader. Her travel group, “the Pearls of Pauline,” created an amazing bond among a large group of travelers across the greater New Haven area. Popular bus travel included Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania’s Amish Country, and Saratoga (always the second week of August). Pauline’s love of theater meant countless day trips to Broadway and the former Westchester Dinner Theater. A trip with Pauline meant the bus ride would be almost as fun as the destination itself. In addition to touring with “her Pearls,” Pauline traveled to a number of countries, her most heartfelt being her multiple trips to Ireland.

As a widow at 55, Pauline founded the Catholic Widows and Widowers Club at Our Lady of Pompeii, where she met her sweetheart of ten years, Joseph Bosco, who died in 2005. Throughout her retirement, Pauline was also very involved in local clubs and organizations including her beloved East Haven Senior Center, where she made many friends she would always hold dear in her heart. In 1999, she was awarded Senior Woman of the Year in recognition of her dedication to the Foxon Community.

Faith was central in Pauline’s life. In addition to unwavering weekly Mass attendance, she was very involved in parish life at Our Lady of Pompeii Church (St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish), including serving on the Parish Council, teaching CCD, and volunteering at the annual summer carnival. Pauline was a member of the Ladies Guild for over sixty years; and has served as its president.

In the last twenty years, Pauline took up the habit of always wearing a festive hat. At first a way to shield her eyes on sunny days, her sparkly hats soon became her signature and a way to bring a smile to friends and strangers alike. Many people gifted Pauline a hat over the years, and her collection grew to a very large number.

In addition to her husband and parents, Pauline is predeceased by her siblings Aileen, Francis, Carol, and Kevin. Her family will miss her dearly. She leaves her daughter Cheryl (Alan) Poirier, son Sean (Michelle) Condon, cherished grandchildren Sean (Mandy), Michael (Nicole), and David Condon, Andrew, Robert (Nicole), and Jeffrey Poirier, Anthony (Maria) and April (Austin) Armetta, and adored great grandchildren Isabella, Samuel, and Sofia. She also leaves treasured nephews and nieces, many friends, and many “Pearls.”

Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven SATURDAY morning, March 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Ladies Guild, 355 Foxon Rd., East Haven, CT 06513 for their good works.
