90th Hartford County 4-H Fair This Weekend

SOMERS, CT — The Hartford County 4-H Fair will celebrate its 90th year this weekend, bringing farm animals, youth exhibits, entertainment and family activities to the Four Town Fairgrounds.

The fair will run Friday through Sunday, Aug. 14-16, at 56 Egypt Road. Gates will be open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for seniors. Military members and children younger than 3 will be admitted free.

Held since 1937, the youth-run fair gives 4-H members a chance to showcase projects they have prepared throughout the year. Exhibits will include dairy and beef cattle, goats, rabbits, poultry, swine, sheep and alpacas, as well as projects in fine arts, food, photography, veterinary science, vegetables and flowers.

Friday’s schedule includes opening ceremonies at 5 p.m., a Doodlebug Pull at 6 p.m. and music by To Be Continued Band from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday’s attractions include a Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a robotics competition, magician shows, line dancing, the 90th Fair Alumni Reception at 4 p.m. and the 90th Fair Ceremony at 5 p.m. The evening will also feature a chicken barbecue, Face Down Band and the Horse Draw.

Sunday will include a dairy breed show, Mad Science demonstration, donkey show, Doodlebug Pull, DJ and games, premier livestock showmanship and closing ceremonies.

Children’s activities and barrel train rides are planned throughout the weekend. The full fair schedule is available online; organizers note it is subject to change.
