Brave The Cold: Ellington Penguin Plunge Returns
First responders and residents will hit the water to support athletes statewide.
ELLINGTON, CT — Brave souls will rush into icy waters at Crystal Lake later this month as Ellington police and state troopers host a local Penguin Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut.
The Ellington Penguin Plunge is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, at Crystal Lake, with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the plunge scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
The event is hosted by the Connecticut State Police - Ellington Resident Trooper’s Office in partnership with the Town of Ellington. Proceeds support year-round sports training and competition opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities across Connecticut.

Organizers say the plunge is about more than cold water. It’s a community fundraiser that brings together residents, first responders, families, and supporters to rally around a shared cause. Participants can plunge solo or as part of a team, raise pledges, or simply cheer from the shoreline.
