Ellington Celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary

Ellington is getting ready to celebrate 250 years of American history—and the entire community is invited! Saturday, October 3, from 1 to 6 p.m., the Town Green will become the gathering place for an afternoon of history, food, music, fun and hometown pride.

The celebration begins at 1 p.m., giving neighbors a chance to gather, visit the timeline of Ellington's history at the Nellie McKnight Museum, enjoy food from local food trucks, explore the many booths on the Green and reconnect with friends from throughout town. Children can join the scavenger hunt and earn a special wooden commemorative coin along the way.

Then, at 2 p.m., the community will come together for a patriotic parade. The parade will begin on Berr Avenue, travel along Main Street and end at the Department of Public Works.

After the parade, everyone is invited to gather at the gazebo on the Green for a reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Local musicians will provide patriotic music throughout the afternoon, showcasing the talent right here in the Ellington community.

At 4:30 p.m., local leaders will share remarks, followed by a guest speaker. The afternoon will culminate with the entire community joining together to sing “God Bless America.”

Whether you have lived in town for generations or are new to the community, everyone is encouraged to come out, meet others, support local organizations and businesses, and share in an afternoon that celebrates both the nation's history and the community's own hometown spirit.

General parking will be available at Town Hall, Arbor Park, Center School and Ellington High School—all within a short walk of the Green.

Handicap parking will be available at the Senior Center, with a shuttle to the event.
