Join the Essex Land Trust for a Thursday morning guided hike exploring the 369-acre Canfield Meadow Woods Preserve which we are pleased to be co-sponsoring with the Valley Shore YMCA. This hike will be 1.5-2 hours over moderate terrain and will feature rock outcroppings, water courses, and some features unique to Canfield Meadow Woods like one of Connecticut’s oldest poplar trees and a platform for some great views. Please arrive by 9:45 AM for a timely start. This hike is weather dependent so check our <a href="https://bit.ly/3Zo1hG6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Facebook Page</a> for updates. Dogs are ok but must be on leash at all times.

Dr.
 Noah Charney, a prominent professor of art history and founder of the 
Association for Research into Crimes Against Art, will provide a virtual
 lecture on the complexities of art crime and how theft can increase an 
artwork’s fame. He will delve into the recent heist at the Louvre in 
October 2025 that included the theft of nearly 100 million dollars' worth
 of jewelry, as well as other theft incidences in the history of the 
Louvre including the 1911 heist of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa.
This program is free and open to the public. Registration is required for all virtual programs.

Program for kids birth – age 5.
Join us for a hands-on, child-led play session designed to engage the senses! Sensory Playtime encourages exploration, creativity, and early learning through touch, sound, and movement. Kids are invited to move from station to station, at their own pace, to scoop, squish, pour, and play with a variety of textures and materials in a safe, supportive space alongside their caregivers. This program supports sensory development, fine motor skills, and social interaction—come play, learn, and make a (little) mess with us!
Essex Library programs are free and open to the public.

Join Stacey Giaquinto from Litter Awareness, LLC for a hands-on, eye-opening program where kids learn how trash and single-use plastics affect our planet. From surprising facts to an interactive “plastic fashion” experience, students will discover simple ways to make a real difference right away. The program ends with an eco-friendly craft to take home—because saving the Earth can start with one small choice!
Stacey Giaquinto is an elementary school teacher with 28 years of experience and a passion for inspiring students to make a difference in their communities. She is the author of a children’s book based on her real-life experiences, telling the story of kids who rally their neighbors to help clean up a local brook. Using the book as a springboard for action, Stacey created Litter Awareness, an engaging educational program that teaches children about the consequences of littering and the impact of single-use plastics.
