In the fall of 1778, Washington was occupied with ascertaining British intentions through his spy network in New York City. Join teacher & historian Jeffrey Denman for a book talk exploring Washington’s northern campaigns after 1778, which are often overlooked but demonstrate Washington’s great skill in strategy, logistics, and diplomacy. Discover the impact of the raids of New Haven, Fairfield, and Norwalk in 1779 and the final years of the Revolutionary War.

About the Speaker

Jeffrey A. Denman is a retired American history and geography teacher from Brookline Public Schools in Brookline, MA. He has written articles and books dealing with the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, and other topics in American history. His latest book is Closing the Ring: George Washington’s War in the North, 1778-1781. Denman is the father of nine children and twenty-two grandchildren as of this writing. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed several 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado and Mt. St. Helens in Washington, and has enjoyed canoeing on the Upper Missouri River in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.
