UU Westport Celebrates Indigenous People: Sunday Service 10 AM

UU Westport invites all to join us this Sunday with our service led by our Mending the Sacred Hoop team, in recognition and honor of Indigenous People holiday weekend.  Nursery care and childcare are available; children begin in the sanctuary with adults and move to their Faith Formation activities about 15 minutes into the service.

This Sunday's  service will focus on leveraging and learning from the voice of our indigenous people. Grandmother Nancy Andry of the Anishinaabe/Innu people and member of our congregation will share a story for all ages. Raleigh Padgett a black Cherokee will lead us on the drum and provide native flute music. In addition, Thayer Barkley of the Blackfoot/Cherokee people will join Jenny & Derek Clinton of the Schaghticoke people will join Grandmother Nancy and Raleigh to round out our indigenous panel. Please click HERE for the Order of Service.

The program promises to be inspiring, provocative, and soul inspiring. After the service, all are welcome to join folks in the Sanctuary follow for a lively discussion to continue communal learnings and reflections.

All are always welcome to our Unitarian Universalist services at UU Westport, offered each Sunday at 10 AM, both in person and live-streamed online. Services usually include a time of reflection/prayer/meditation; wonderful music; readings; and a homily or sermon to lend insight into our world and how we interact with it and with each other.

The Rev. Terri Dennehy usually presides over our time together that includes participation from multiple congregants, guests, and friends. Music Director Micah Krajca leads our choirs. Separate children's programming and nursery care is usually available during the service, 10-11:15AM.  Nursery care (ages 0- preK) is always available. Dress code is as you feel comfortable.

As always, our e-newsletter SOUNDINGS has all the information one needs to find out what's going on in our congregation. Contact the office at 203.227.7205 x 10 if you have specific questions.

UU Westport is a diverse and welcoming religious community, free of creed and dogma, and open to people of all backgrounds and beliefs. We welcome all who are in search of a non-judgmental, loving, safe community to come together to explore what it means to be human and alive in today's world, and how we can best serve one another and those around us, near and far.

Our services take place in UU Westport's iconic sanctuary building, a glorious architectural masterpiece of mid-century modernist Victor Lundy (1923-2024). The building has just undergone a major renovation and is spectacular with its soaring rooflines, sparkling glass walls, set in the woods with the beauty of nature all around it.
