Farmington Says 'Yes' To Town/School Budget; OKs 2 HVAC Projects: Referendum
Voter turnout was light, however, as the approved spending plan for 2026-27 will increase taxes by 3.5 percent this year.

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington voters approved the town’s proposed 2026–27 budget and two capital improvement projects in a low-turnout referendum held Thursday, April 30.
According to results released by the town, 987 of 18,835 eligible voters cast ballots, a turnout of 5.24%.
Voters approved Question 1, adopting the combined town and school budget, by a vote of 593 to 394.

The $143.2 million spending plan represents a $6.48 million, or 4.74%, increase over the current budget and takes effect July 1.
The approved budget sets the mill rate at 27.55, an increase of 0.93 mills from the prior year.

Town officials estimate the change will result in a 3.5% tax increase, or about $281 more annually for a home assessed at $301,455, the town’s average assessment.
Voters also approved two bonding measures:
• Question 2, which authorizes $1 million for HVAC replacement at the Highway and Grounds Department garage, passed 610 to 374.
• Question 3, which authorizes $2.65 million for HVAC and roof replacement at the Farmington Community and Senior Center, passed 637 to 347.
Both projects will be financed through the issuance of bonds and notes.
The budget and approved capital projects will move forward for the upcoming fiscal year.
