East Granby Community Day Gets New Date

EAST GRANBY, CT — East Granby Community Day has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, at Granbrook Park.

The family-friendly celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the recently renovated park, located at 10 Granbrook Park Road. The event had originally been planned for Sept. 13.

One of the day’s main attractions will be the East Granby Lions Club Rubber Duck Derby. The race will begin at 2:30 p.m., when the numbered ducks will be released from a bridge and sent toward the finish line.

Ducks can be sponsored for $5 each. The first-place duck will win $500, followed by prizes of $250 and $100. Restaurant gift cards will also be awarded. Ducks may be purchased ahead of time through Venmo or at the event.

Food will be available throughout the afternoon. The Lions Club will serve hamburgers and hot dogs, Brie’s Fries will offer french fries and East Granby Cub Scout Pack 70 will sell ice cream.

The celebration will also include a time capsule dedication led by Northern Connecticut Veterans. The capsule will commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday and is intended to remain buried for 50 years, until the nation celebrates its 300th birthday in 2076.

Community Day is being organized by the East Granby Lions Club, East Granby Parks and Recreation and the town’s 250th Celebration Committee. Windsor Federal Bank is sponsoring the Duck Derby, while The Grand Meadows is sponsoring the time capsule.

Granbrook Park includes a playground, picnic facilities and access to Salmon Brook, according to the town.
