Decision Made On Classes At Greenwich Public Schools For Feb. 24

GREENWICH, CT — Due to the intense blizzard that ripped through the region Sunday into Monday, classes scheduled for Feb. 24 in Greenwich Public Schools have been cancelled.

The school district said the decision was made to allow Department of Public Works employees additional time to clear roads and parking lots because of potentially hazardous travel conditions. All afterschool activities have been cancelled as well.

The state of Connecticut does not allow for virtual learning days.

Approximately 15,000 customers were out of power across Connecticut as of mid-day Monday, officials said.

Utility companies have brought in crews from nearby states and Canada to help with power restoration, which could take as long as between two and five days, depending on the extent of the outages, officials said.

As of 5:45 p.m., 172 customers were without power in Greenwich, according to Eversource's outage map.

Town Hall will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday to allow time for employees to travel safely to work.

Greenwich Library and its Byram Shubert and Cos Cob branches will have a delayed opening at 12 p.m.

Greenwich's snow emergency, which restricts on-street parking throughout town, remains in effect to allow crews to safely and efficiently clear roadways.
