Greenwich Police Mourn Death Of Retired Officer

Greenwich police said the officer's dedication to public safety and the community "exemplified the finest traditions" of the department.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the death of retired officer Robert Grosso. He was 86.

Grosso joined the GPD on April 15, 1963, and retired on Aug. 1, 1988, the department said in a social media post.

He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Sept. 12, 1940 and grew up in Greenwich, attending Julian Curtiss School and Greenwich High School, later graduating from Port Chester High School.

"Officer Grosso was recognized numerous times for outstanding police work, including his alertness, which led him to discover an intruder at the Greenwich Car Company in 1968, and his quick actions during a 1971 fire on Greenwich Avenue," the GPD said. "His service also extended beyond the badge, as he volunteered his time to coach the Greenwich Police-sponsored Babe Ruth baseball team."

The department noted Grosso's dedication to public safety and the community "exemplified the finest traditions of the Greenwich Police Department."

"We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers," police added. "We join all members of the Department in extending our sincere sympathy to the Grasso Family."
